Burlington Daycare Offering Flexible Programs for Your Busy Schedule

Knowing your child is in good hands provides peace of mind for you to accomplish your day-to-day tasks. Whether you need some help with childcare in the morning or afternoon, Brant Children’s Centre can help with our daycare programs in Burlington. We offer Before School Care beginning at 7:15 am and After School Care.

Our before school program ensures your child has everything he or she needs to head off to school on the right foot. Then, your child will be transported to the public or private school he or she attends. We coordinate with the schools to be sure your child makes it to class on time.

If you need some extra time at work or running errands after your child’s school lets out, our after school program is a popular choice. We provide a drink and snack every day. Your child has the choice of working on homework with any assistance necessary or hanging out with friends. We pick children up from school to take them to our after school program.

Structured Learning Offering Play & Teaching

At Brant Children’s Centre, we recognize how important play is for young learners. However, our daycare program is structured and teacher-directed rather than “play-based” and “child-directed.” Our program evolves from an annualized framework of learning objectives that we have developed over many years. This framework identifies the wide array of learning activities that we want our children to experience, although how these activities are implemented will depend on the interests of the teachers involved and the needs and interests of the children involved that particular year.

To ensure each child is developing skills and having fun at our daycare in Burlington, we employ a Comprehensive Learning Curriculum that focuses on:

  • Language and Literacy – with an emphasis on teaching children to read
  • Mathematics – teaching basic math concepts in areas of numbers and numeration, measurement, patterning, geometry and shapes, and data management
  • Science, Technology and STEM activities – which includes exploration and experiments, computers, Wiz-Tech, Roots & Shoots
  • The Arts – offering visual arts (painting, drawing, etc.), music and movement, dance, and drama
  • Personal and Social Development – teaching manners and ethics, sports, team work, life skills, conflict resolution, swimming lessons (for Kindergarten children)

Along with our curriculum, each child is given two snacks and a hot lunch each day. We develop our menus on an eight-week rotation, following Canada’s Food Guide.

In terms of student-to-staff ratios go, we follow the Ministry of Education’s guidelines:

  • Infants – 1:3 children or 3:10 children
  • Toddlers – 1:5
  • Pre-School – 1:8
  • Kindergarten – typically 1:8 to 1:10 (much lower than a Board school)
  • School Age – 1:12 to 1:15
