About Us
ABOUT BRANT CHILDREN’S CENTRE:
In 1967, Brant Pre-Schools began to provide nursery school programs in Burlington . In 1972, Brant Children’s Centre opened its door to families in the Burlington area. The school was started by Wendy and Joe Kormos, two teachers ahead of their time. The Kormos’ saw a need for a quality child care facility to meet the demands of an ever increasing number of working parents.
In 1980, Peter Knoepfli and Dr. Heather Knoepfli assumed the leadership of Brant Children’s Centre and Pre-Schools. They have spent the last 29 years evolving and refining Brant, not only to meet the needs of parents but also to develop a caring, safe and stimulating environment for young children growing up in a changing and increasingly complex and technological world.
Some of the innovations that have occurred in the last 28 years include:
- developed after-school programs in the early 1980s

- developed enriched full-day JK and SK programs as an alternative to the school system
- developed Wiz-Tech, a creative problem-solving program
- researched how computers could be used to enhance pre-school learning, and built a computer lab
- built four separate playgrounds to serve different age groups
- developed Summer Adventure Camps
- became one of the first Roots & Shoots groups in Canada , recognizing the importance of care and compassion for animals, the environment, people and their communities
- developed a Comprehensive Learning Curriculum with a focus on language and literacy.
In 2005, we built an addition to Brant’s main building and a new playground. Brant’s interest is to “look forward” and to continue to develop its teaching staff, facilities and resources so that the programs we offer are of the highest quality possible.
Our motto is and continues to be “a happy place to grow and learn”.
